Christmas: 1996 St Anthony of Padua Okeene

1996: St. Anthony of Padua

Okeene, Oklahoma

In 1904, Fr. Joseph Francis, the first resident pastor, moved the church from the north part of Okeene to its present location. In April 1905, a violent wind moved the church from its foundation. It was repaired immediately only to have another storm move it from its foundation in September of 1905. Once again it was repaired. The project of building a new church was begun in November of 1916. Money was raised over the next few years and building plans were drawn. The excavation, sand, hauling of brick and stone were all donated. Actual work began on December 20, 1921. The church was completed in 1924 at a cost of $85,000 and stands as one of the oldest churches in Oklahoma.
